Abbotts & Delaunay hook up with Woods Crampton to shape the future of the Languedoc and the Barossa
Talented winemakers and brand creators, Laurent Delaunay and Nicholas Crampton have formed a ground breaking, international partnership between the Languedoc and the Barossa, to share their unique, mutual wine making philosophy as well as the international distribution of their wines. On 21 November they will both be in London at young super-chef Ollie Dabbous’ new restaurant Henrietta’s from 4.00-6.00pm to explain how their dynamic coupling is shaping the future of premium wines in both their regions.
After meeting back in 2009 in Burgundy, Laurent and Nicholas, both owners of relatively young, but trail blazing boutique wineries, discovered they shared the same philosophy; to do things differently from other producers and create exceptional wines destined to be their regions’ future. Their wines were fresh, elegant and contemporary, made using old vines and alternative grape varieties in regions better known for full-bodied, full-on blockbusters. They achieved this trademark drinkability and understated style using Burgundian principles for terroir selection and winemaking techniques. With their wines frequently winning top awards in the major international wine competitions, as well as +90 points with leading wine critics in both hemispheres, they knew they were on to something!
As well as sharing a wine making philosophy and ambition to shape the future style of upper tier wines in their regions, both realised that distributing each other’s wines around the globe was also the way forward in the ever changing, post Brexit global market place.
“At Woods Crampton, we’re known as the straight men of the Barossa new wave. Our range includes a ladder of old Barossa shiraz, complex and though provoking blends and alternate varietals that we believe might be the future of the valley,” says Nicholas Crampton wine creator at Woods Crampton. “This is the first time we’ve shown our wines in the UK and we’re looking forward to getting some feedback from the top wine critics and buyers in the industry.”
“Abbotts & Delaunay was the result of many years of work to find the perfect terroir to make wines that would be the benchmark for the very best being made in the Languedoc Roussillon,” comments Laurent Delaunay wine creator at Abbotts & Delaunay. “Today the range continues to grow to include organic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir made in our own hilly vineyards near Limoux, that can, according to Fabrice Sommier, Head Sommelier at the 3 Michelin starred Georges Blanc restaurant in Vonnas, Burgundy and former winner of Best Sommelier of France, rival the very best of the Côte de Nuits”.
Don’t miss this one-off opportunity to meet these two exceptional winemakers, as well as Nicholas Crampton’s sometime wine making partner and fellow South Australian star, Corey Ryan. Hear their stories of working together and sharing an innovative philosophy of wine making and international distribution, which has brought them critical acclaim as well as providing a solution to engage discerning wine buyers and drinkers.
The tasting will be accompanied by a selection of small plates created by young, super-chef Ollie Dabbous in his latest reincarnation at Henrietta’s. The event is small and exclusive and strictly open to members of the trade and press by invitation only.
