Famille Helfrich, the on-trade and independents arm of Les Grands Chais de France and owner of the largest Châteaux and Domaine business in the on-trade, hosted a successful, inaugural Portfolio Tasting at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham 25-27 February 2019. The event was widely supported by leading on-trade and indies from all over the UK and Ireland and showcased Famille Helfrich’s extensive French offering as well as some of their new out of France ranges.
One of the event’s main highlights was Birmingham Michelin starred TV celeb chef, the Yummy Brummy and Calvet brand ambassador, Glynn Purnell’s cookery demonstration of some of his French food memories to launch the new Calvet range exclusively created for on-trade and independents.

‘We’re really pleased with how things went and the feedback was excellent! We’re planning to make this an annual event and will look at possibly choosing another city in the UK so that we can bring our wines to more of our customers across the UK and Ireland,’ says Chris Davies, UK Sales Director for Famille Helfrich.

New Calvet range for on-trade and independents:
With stylish, contemporary packaging to differentiate the brand from its successful off-trade predecessor, yet still retain recognisable cues for the consumer, the new Calvet range has three quality tiers to ensure a broad appeal for all on-trade and independent buyers;
- exclusive varietal on-trade range – Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Rosé
- Heritage range of AOP wines from the most popular French appellations
- the classic Calvet 1818 Bordeaux AOP icon wine heading up the range
Created to celebrate the birth of Calvet in Bordeaux 200 years ago, Calvet Cuvee 1818 is made from a selection of the best parcels owned by Famille Helfich’s partner growers across the region. Calvet winemaker, Benjamin Tueux has produced a premium example of Bordeaux style with a contemporary twist to give consumers the opportunity to discover a stand out AOP Bordeaux that is typical of the region, approachable and with the potential to age well for around 7 years.
